Hey all,
In my spare time over the past month or so I've been working on coming
up with a working, compiled from source package of OpenOffice, using
Ximian's ooo-build. There was one built from source a while back, but
I hope this package might become the OpenOffice build of choice. So
anyway, the package is at a point where I think its usuable enough to
be released to the public. Feel free to try the binary, or compiling
yourself using the PKGBUILD and related patches and resources.
Some quirks of the current package (as of this writing, 1.3.3-2):
* Dependencies are probably all mucked up. I'm not sure I entirely
trust namcap's recommendations, so the dependencies as it stands now
are probably all busted. I encourage anyone brave enough to test the
package to give me feedback about updating the depends list. At some
point, hopefully soon, I'll try installing it onto a fresh Arch
system, and see what the package actually needs.
* Its currently GNOME-only. Since I'm a GNOME user, and not a KDE
user, I've compiled this with GTK+ "support" and no KDE "support". I
currently move the .desktop files into /opt/gnome/share/applications,
so that my GNOME menu can see them. I install the MIME data into
GNOME's application-registry and such too. My justification (besides
the "I use GNOME" argument) is this: I believe that most KDE users
have GTK+ installed, as well as Qt. I think its a lot harder for a KDE
user to get away with a system that's GTK+ free, than it is for a
GNOME user to get away with a system that's Qt free. Bet that makes a
lot of sense huh.
So to make a long story short ("Too late!"), the package is called
'ximian-openoffice'. Binaries will be in my TUR when it finishes
uploading, I run the db-gen and the mirrors mirror. Source PKGBUILDs
are up at: http://xentac.net/tur/tags/link/ximian-openoffice/
Cheers! Link
