[arch] Arch linux for a non-i686

I recently switched to Archlinux from debian, and is quite happy with it. The
switchover was not hard at all.
Many things are much faster, and it is much more straightforward in its setup.

But still, I have a web-server, running on a non-i686 processor, and it is
still running debian due to that. Yesterday I tried to install proftp, and
got completely entangled in the mess of debian setups, so I was thinking that
maybe I could just recomile archlinux for that processor, just the parts I
need, and run it there too.

Has anyone done like that. Recompiled partial archlinux for another processor?
I guess it means most of
base + a little bit more. Is it a too big project, or does it go fairly easy?
I have experience enough to do it, I am mainly wondering how entangling it
would be.
