Currently we have official packages optimized for the i686 and x86-64 architectures. We complement our official package sets with a community-operated package repository that grows in size and quality each and every day.

Kernel 2.6.27 in core

Last night, kernel26 2.6.27-2 has been moved from testing to core. This upgrade seems to be pretty smooth, so don't expect many problems. - Watchdog drivers have been enabled as modules. - MSI/MSI-X is now activated. New nvidia-173xx packages available for users of GeForce FX cards

The recently released 177.80 version of the NVIDIA driver stopped supporting the GeForce FX series of cards. klibc upgrade requires user intervention

Due to a limitation in pacman's conflict checking and symbolic link resolution, the upgrade to klibc-1.5.14-1 requires manual removal of a symbolic link befole updating. Please run the command "rm /usr/lib/klibc/include/asm" as root to remove the symbolic link that will otherwise cause a few hundred false file conflicts.

netcfg v2.1 in [core]

netcfg v2.1 is mostly a bug fix release, however there are some important changes and new features. - Remove driver specific hacks/quirks. TeXLive now in extra

Based on the official release last week of TeXLive 2008, a collection of texlive packages is now available in extra and replaces the obsolete tetex. xorg-server 1.5RC6 enters testing

Xorg-server 1.5RC6 (1.4.99.906) enters tesing. This version of xorg-server includes input hotplugging using hal, better EXA support and less memory usage. Note that this version requires an upgrade of all videodrivers. All videodrivers shipped with X.Org have been rebuilt to reflect this change. Nvidia drivers don't seem to need a rebuild, while AMD's catalyst drivers don't support the new X.Org ...
